Stripe | Micro-Deposit Workflow
The micro-deposit workflow is now available through the Customer Portal for any customers who cannot locate their Bank through Stripe financial connections when attempting to pay an invoice with ACH, and wish to enter their details manually.
⚠️ This feature is only available in the Customer Portal, and not available through the Guest Checkout workflow.
What are micro-deposits?
A micro-deposit is a small test deposit (typically $0.01) sent to your customer’s bank account when they choose to pay by ACH and enter their account details manually.
They’ll see this deposit on their bank statement, then enter the exact amount in the payment screen to verify their account and complete the ACH setup.
How it Works
The following are guided steps you can advise your customers to follow
- Sign into the Customer Portal (or create an account if it is their first time) directly from the emailed invoice
- Once signed in, click on the Profile tab on the left hand side menu, then click + Add Payment Method
- Click on US Bank Account, fill out the email and name section, then click on Enter Details Manually
- From here, your customers can manually enter their bank account details and click Submit to initiate the micro-deposit process. They will receive an email within 1-2 business days with instructions.
- Back in the LMN Customer Portal, their bank account details will say Pending Verification until the process has been completed.
- Once they receive their instructions and verify the micro deposit was received in their back account, they will need to come back into the Customer Portal and click Verify Payment Method
- Your customer will enter the 6 character code starting with 'SM' from that $0.01 micro- deposit then click Verify
- Once the deposit has been verified with Stripe, the customer can close the window
✅ Success! Your customers bank details have now been saved in the Customer Portal. To make this payment method the default (which you could then use on their behalf) have your customers click the Set as Default button
If your customers need to delete a payment method on file, they can do so by clicking on the Remove button in their Customer Portal.
